Quotation, lead time and technical support: what to expect
Exactalloy · Updated
Understand how a quotation is prepared, what typical lead times apply to stock, standard and custom items, and how technical support is arranged before and after an order.
How a quotation is prepared
Price depends on the specification, the coating, the quantity and the delivery terms, so it is confirmed per request rather than fixed for a product family.
- Send the SKU or drawing, quantity, material and required date.
- State the delivery country and trade term for an accurate delivered figure.
- Ask for the quotation validity period and what is excluded.
- Quantity breaks and framework agreements are available for larger volumes.
Typical lead times
Lead time depends on whether the item is stocked, standard or custom. The figures below are planning estimates and are confirmed per order.
- Stock items: typically ship within 1–2 working days.
- Standard non-stock specifications: typically 3–5 working days.
- Custom samples: typically 5–10 working days.
- Custom batch production: typically 12–18 working days after sample approval.
Technical support
Support covers selection, starting cutting data and failure investigation. It works best when the actual machining conditions are supplied.
- Selection from material, hardness, operation and machine interface.
- Starting parameters against machine, holder and coolant.
- Failure analysis for chipping, breakage or poor surface finish.
- Parameter review when a tool underperforms its expected life.
Documents, inspection and after-sales
Inspection and shipping documents can be arranged, and quality issues are investigated against the recorded conditions.
- Request inspection data with the order if it is required for your quality system.
- State any export documentation needs at the quotation stage.
- Report a problem with the order number, photographs and recorded parameters.
- Keep approved drawings and quotations as the reference for repeat orders.
